Graduate School of Information Science and Technology Department of Information Sciences
We train human resources who can meet the social needs of the IT (information and communication technology) era.
The Graduate School of Information Science and Technology aims to develop talented individuals who are internationally qualified, highly knowledgeable, creative, and entrepreneurial (venture minded) in order to meet the social needs of the IT (information and communication technology) era. The system allows students to choose from a wide variety of study courses, based on the principle of unearthing students' potential abilities and cultivating the attitude and habit of actively taking initiative in everything from the selection of study subjects and materials to the method. In addition, there is a scholarship system that provides outstanding students who wish to enter the Graduate School of Information Science and Technology with a scholarship equivalent to the annual tuition fee.
After completing the course, students can choose their career path from two options: production engineering, which involves manufacturing computer hardware, devices incorporating computers, or computer-controlled systems, or service engineering, which involves software, content business, information systems, or communication network services. Students can choose the content of their studies based on which they are more interested in, and this will efficiently develop them into highly advanced IT professionals. In addition, many of our faculty members have worked for companies, and our ability to provide education based on practical experience is a major strength.
We also hope that students will progress to the doctoral program, which began in April 2002, and pursue a career as engineers and researchers in advanced information science. The Faculty of Information Science and Technology places emphasis on fundamental academic studies, such as natural sciences. We also aim to develop individuals who understand the role that information plays in enriching society, and who are equipped with deep knowledge and culture along with accurate judgment.

Educational philosophy and outline of the Doctoral Program in Graduate School of Information Science and Technology
After completing the Master's course, the majority of students will enter society and play an active role. Those who aim to become researchers who can contribute to the advancement of academia and technology, or who can become independent leaders in the industrial world, are encouraged to proceed to the Doctoral Course, which was established in 2002.
In other words, this course aims to train excellent researchers who can play an active role at the forefront of the information science field, and to retrain working adults in this course to become highly specialized professionals. The doctoral course has five areas that are slightly broader than those in the master's course: (1) information systems and software, (2) cognition and information media, (3) mathematics and data science, (4) real-world information, and (5) intelligent information. In the doctoral course (maximum of five students per year), students receive research guidance from professors in one of the five areas mentioned above, but they also actively participate in seminars in other laboratories in the same field, and are guided to grow into experts who can cover as wide a range as possible.

Graduate School of Information Science and Technology to Launch Recurrent Education Program
A "learning space" to hone the skills required in the workplace
Recently, "recurrent education," an initiative that involves learning at each stage in order to continue honing the skills required in the workplace and society, has been attracting attention.
The "DX Innovation Leader Education Program for Smart Manufacturing (Certification Program)" is a program that aims to train talent in business who can solve problems based on data analysis rather than intuition or experience. Those who meet the requirements for completing the program will be issued a certificate of completion by the Graduate School of Information Science and Technology at Osaka Institute of Technology Institute of Technology.
