Faculty of Information Science and Technology Department of Information and Computer Science

Message from the Dean

Faculty of Information Science and Technology and Department of Information and Computer Science

Atsuo Ozaki

If you have the skills and motivation in IT and AI, you can succeed in any field.

Information devices and systems that use AI are becoming more prevalent in society. Therefore, IT engineers are required to have the skills to develop and use AI. In particular, since the amount of information processed by AI is huge, knowledge of hardware is also required to efficiently process software. In the Department of Information and Computer Science, students can learn software, hardware, and AI in a balanced way. In addition, the department has a wide range of student projects both domestically and internationally that allow students to put the skills and knowledge they have learned into practice, and many students are enthusiastic about participating and growing.

FeatureFeatures

Today, as information devices and systems using artificial intelligence (AI) are becoming more prevalent in society, the technology to develop and use AI is becoming essential for IT engineers . Because the amount of information processed by AI is very large, IT engineers involved with AI are expected to have in-depth knowledge of the hardware required to efficiently process the software . Our department offers a curriculum that allows students to learn the three fields of software, hardware, and AI without difficulty , and through student projects and advanced research activities that utilize the three fields, we provide opportunities for students to acquire knowledge and skills in this field more enjoyably and in-depth.

  1. From soft to hard,
Learn a wide range of information technology

This department provides a balanced education not only on the programming skills traditionally required of IT engineers, but also on the hardware on which the programs will be implemented. This will enable students to grow into IT engineers who can program in a way that is suited to the structure of the hardware, such as CPUs and GPUs, which are familiar to those familiar with smartphones and game consoles.

  2. AI and other cutting-edge information technologies
Learn efficiently through lectures and exercises

Our department has set up a curriculum that allows students to seamlessly apply the knowledge they learn in lectures through practical exercises by linking lectures and exercises. In our department, we link lectures and exercises in each of the three fields of software, hardware, and AI, so by studying in our department, students can develop into high-value-added IT engineers with knowledge and skills in the fields of hardware and AI in addition to software.

  3. A wide range of employment opportunities utilizing the comprehensive strengths of software, hardware, and AI

The department conducts research activities and student projects in a wide range of fields, taking advantage of the comprehensive strengths of software, hardware, and AI. Using this experience, graduates go on to a wide range of employment opportunities, including not only software development companies but also major manufacturers . One of the features of this department is that employment opportunities are not limited to the information field, but extend to all areas of engineering. The achievements of graduates are also introduced on the collaborative website between our university and FM802.

Pick up classes

  • Class image 1

Intelligent Information Science Seminar I (Image Processing)

Through these exercises, you will learn the basics of image processing and Python, and create a program to detect objects in videos. What you learn here will serve as the foundation for subsequent exercises in Python, image processing, and image recognition.

  • Class image 2

Intelligent Information Science Seminar III (Robot Competition)

Participants will create a Python program to control the robot using the camera images mounted on the robot, and compete (in a two-team match). The program will recognize the color and shape of the opponent's flag and move towards it, and the team that reaches the flag first will be the winner.

Learn through videos (Features of the department)

  • This video provides an overview of the department.

  • This video introduces the research being carried out in the Department's Neural Inspired Systems Laboratory, where we are developing a new form of artificial intelligence based on the nervous system of living organisms.

Learn through videos (student projects)

  • This project is to create an experiential puzzle-solving game using IT technology. We use artificial intelligence (voice and image recognition), image processing, AR, web apps, robots, and more. We are developing a completely new form of entertainment that you can see, hear, and feel. This video is an introduction video for the real puzzle-solving game "Escape from Yurei One Room," which is performed at events such as open campuses. Please watch the demo play of the game created by students, making extensive use of information technology.

    Website

  • This project involves developing smart robots that utilize AI and participating in robot demonstration experiments and competitions.
This video shows the development of a robot for the Nakanoshima Robot Project. Watch as the AI smart car developed in this project is test driven on the sidewalks around the Central Public Hall, and see the operation of our proprietary visual recognition system.

  • In this project, students from the Faculty of Information Science and Technology will create videos and images to promote the appeal of the Faculty of Information Science and Technology and post them on social media. The URL for the social media account is as follows:

Three Policies of the Department of Information and Computer Science

FacilityFacility Introduction

  • A vast campus towering over Hirakata.

The vast campus, located in northeastern Osaka, is equipped with a wide range of facilities related to information science.
Surrounded by a quiet residential area, you can study and participate in extracurricular activities in a peaceful environment.

  • Human Robotics Research and Development Center

We are researching and developing elemental technologies and service prototypes for life-support robots that can coexist with humans, envisioning situations such as nursing care, rehabilitation support, and lifestyle support for the elderly and physically disabled. We also play a role in practical manufacturing education through the creation of robots.

  • Visualization Software Development Center

We are developing software that can "visualize" various events and phenomena that cannot be seen directly through the senses of sight and touch by analyzing and reconstructing them using methods of image processing, computer graphics, and numerical analysis.
