Basic skills improvement course

Basic skills improvement course
In the three faculties of science and engineering, students need basic knowledge of mathematics and physics in particular to study and master specialized subjects. In the basic skills improvement course, students review the basics with content closely linked to regular mathematics and physics classes, and aim to improve their basic skills and practical abilities by solving practice problems.
In the mathematics courses, similar problems such as example problems and practice problems that are dealt with in mathematics classes in each faculty are used as teaching materials and explanations are given, and students are trained to solve them on their own.
In physics courses, students will study in groups to complete assigned worksheets given in classes at each department, aiming to gain a deeper understanding of the physics content.
Please check the syllabus for each subject to determine the content of the classes and the goals to be achieved. If you are unsure about the mathematics and physics knowledge you learned in high school, please actively participate in basic skills improvement courses to ensure that you earn the credits required.
Please note that the content of the program will vary depending on each campus.

Introducing Sharesta

Introducing the Co-Operation Commons (nicknamed Sharesta) on the 1st floor of Building 5, Omiya Campus

Sharesta is a place where students can learn together and share what they have learned with each other.

The Education Center of Omiya Campus is located in a corner of Sharesta on the first floor of Building No. 5. The name "Sharesta" is an abbreviation of "share studying," and unlike traditional study spaces, it is named by students of the university, with the implication that students will study together around a large table with student tutors or teachers from the Education Center, and share what they have learned with each other.

Sharesta 4 Areas

Study Area 1
1. Study Area 1

This area is primarily for students who use the Education Center.
Kind and caring student tutors are always on hand to answer your questions. Of course, it is ideal not only for users but also for individual study. The atmosphere and facilities make it easy to talk and teach each other, making it an area where you can concentrate on your studies.
Study Area 2
2. Study Area 2

An open learning area that anyone can use easily.
The furniture allows for a wide variety of setups, such as sharing a large table for individual study or combining movable furniture for group study. This area can also be used for a variety of purposes, such as meetings for extracurricular activities.
Sofa corner
3. Sofa corner

Integrated with the entrance lobby, this area is a place where people gather and interact naturally. It is more than just a space for studying; it is furnished with lounge-style furniture, giving it a different atmosphere from classrooms, making it a comfortable area where you can spend time.
Qualification Support Corner
4. Qualification Support Corner

This area supports students who are trying to improve their skills for job hunting and obtain qualifications to achieve their future dreams.

Fukuzo Yoshida

Message to current students
Here is my message to all of you who are looking to develop your own creativity in the field of research. In research, it is important to first recognize and organize the problem in the background. When trying to elucidate a phenomenon, you will often be faced with difficult physics and mathematics. However, difficult problems are the result of a series of basic problems. In other words, you should thoroughly build up a foundational knowledge of physics and mathematics as soon as possible after entering university. At the Education Center, senior students and faculty members will support you using their own experiences.

Message to high school students

This is my message to all high school students who are working hard at sports and studying every day during their school life. Regardless of whether you are good at sports, studying, or anything else, why not continue doing just one thing with the attitude of "I'll try it on my own". Possibilities will expand in a positive way, and turn into the driving force that will develop from one point to a full breakthrough. And at Osaka Institute of Technology, challenge yourself with the attitude of "I'll try it on my own". At the Education Center, we will support you who are "I'll try it on my own" in the study of physics and mathematics.

Message to current students
We are now in the age of "lifelong learning." Don't just limit yourself to university studies, but try new things that interest you. You can take part in and try out courses and activities in a variety of fields, including sports, culture, and the performing arts, at universities and in society (libraries, community centers, private facilities, etc.). You can try these things at any age. These experiences will help you grow as a person and enrich your life. Let's try various fields!

Message to high school students

When you enter university, the way you study will change dramatically. For example,
  • Considering the "issues"
  • Summarize your opinion
  • Discuss with friends
  • Announce
  • Disseminate information
Activities such as these will begin.
However, the basics are important. Having a solid understanding of what you have learned up to high school is essential for your future studies. The Education Center at Osaka Institute of Technology will support you. See you at university!

Conversations and consultations with people from various backgrounds can lead to unexpected realizations. I hope you will stop by the Education Center even if you don't understand something. I also enjoy interacting and talking with you all, and hope to learn and pursue easy-to-understand explanation methods. The classes are mainly Analysis I, Analysis I Exercises, and the Basic Skills Improvement Course Analysis I and II, but please feel free to ask about mathematics related to job interviews.

Message to high school students
What are your goals for the future? Passing the entrance exam for XX University! Aim to find employment in XX field! There are probably many possibilities. Some of you may not have decided yet. I firmly believe that the important thing is not to decide on a goal, but to work hard to find one, and once you have decided, work hard to achieve it. It's okay to change along the way. I changed again along the way. At the Osaka Institute of Technology of Technology Education Center, we would like to support you from various angles after you enroll. OVER THE LIMIT!

Message to current students
Mathematics may be a tool for you to analyze phenomena in a specialized way. But mathematics also has an aspect of being a universal language. For example, the Pythagorean theorem is studied all over the world, but it was discovered in ancient Greece, a whopping 2,600 years ago. In the words of guitarist Masatoshi Majima, "Difficult things are easy to understand, easy to understand things are interesting, and interesting things are deep.", we will convey this universal language.

Message to high school students
When we ask, "Hey, why do you like math?", we sometimes get the answer, "Because there is only one answer." But just like mountain climbing, even if there is only one answer (peak), there are many ways to solve (paths), so it can be fun. Also, if you think "math" is "difficult for numbers," there is no need to worry. At the Education Center, we, the faculty, staff, and student staff, are here to support your learning by answering questions and holding courses. Why not come and have fun with math at our school!

The Education Center is a place to support your learning. If you have any questions or are stuck, please feel free to come and ask. Graduate students are also available in the afternoon, so you can ask them for advice. There is a saying that goes, "It is a moment of shame to ask, but a lifetime of shame not to ask." Once you overcome the hurdle, you will think, "Oh, it was easy when I understood," and learning will become more enjoyable. We look forward to your visit.

Message to high school students
"OVER THE LIMIT - Growth beyond limits" is our slogan. In the human-powered aircraft propeller division, we placed second in 2022 and third in 2023. The earnest and steady efforts typical of engineering students have produced results. Energetic young people gather on the southeast side of the Yodo River in the northeast of Osaka City to learn, play, and enjoy a fulfilling university life. In 2023, Building 5 was opened, with a self-study space on the first floor and a library that doubles as a learning commons on the fourth to sixth floors. There are many female students who study alongside male students. Enjoy your university life and OVER THE LIMIT.

Physics is the foundation of many science and technology fields. Physics is deep and difficult to escape from the image of being "difficult". Some people may have struggled with it in high school. It may take courage to take the first step, but if there is anything about physics you don't understand, please do not hesitate to use the Education Center. We, the faculty, student staff, and tutors will support your learning, cherishing the feeling of "making difficult things easy to understand."

Message to high school students
Some of you may be saying, "I'm not good at physics" or "I didn't choose physics." But don't worry! As long as you persevere until the end, there's nothing to worry about. At the Education Center, we have faculty members, student staff, and tutors who will answer your questions, set up courses, and support your studies. We value the idea of "making difficult things easy to understand," and we look forward to welcoming you to our university!

I am at the Education Center of the Omiya Campus on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, and at the Hirakata Campus on Mondays and Thursdays. Please feel free to come and see me if you don't understand something in math or if you're stuck. I also have experience teaching at high schools, so I think I can give you easy-to-understand advice on liberal arts math at university level. Let's share the joy and fun of thinking carefully and eventually arriving at the answer.

Message to high school students
"OVER THE LIMIT - Growth beyond your limits" is the catchphrase of our university. Every year, at the Education Center, we see students who were not good at math when they enrolled working hard and improving their grades, and we are often impressed by how true this catchphrase is. Regardless of your high school academic background, the Education Center has a fully-established system to provide the support you need to study at university. Even if you are a little worried about math, please enroll with peace of mind.

If you have any questions about your classes, please come and consult with us, even if it's just one basic thing at a time. Even if you solve one question, I think the next question will become clear. Even if it's just for a short time, I think something will change just by taking the action of coming to consult with us once. We look forward to seeing you.

Message to high school students
Some of you may not have been good at math or physics in high school, but at Osaka Institute of Technology, there is a department called the Education Center where you can receive individual instruction in math and physics from the basics. Rather than giving up on continuing on to science and engineering because you are not good at math or physics, we encourage you to give it a try if there is something in the science and engineering field that you would like to try. There are many things in the science and engineering field that go far beyond your imagination and can enrich and satisfy your life. I think your world will expand even if you just come and listen once.

"The seed of science is the discovery of something mysterious. The stem of science is the discovery of the mystery. And finally, the mystery is solved; this is the flower of science." These are the words of Nobel Prize winner in Physics, Tomonaga Shinichiro.
If you think something is strange and think freely without being bound by preconceived notions, hold on to that question. And keep thinking. Even if it takes a detour, it's not necessarily a waste of time. Continuing to think will lead to the creation of something new.

Message to high school students
At university, you will study specialized subjects, and mathematics and physics form the foundation.
As Galileo Galilei said, "The book of the universe is written in the language of mathematics," understanding using mathematics is essential in engineering.
Furthermore, physics is at the root of much of the development of science and technology, and is essential as the foundation of engineering.
We cover not only first-year subjects, but also mathematics and physics studied in the second year and beyond, as well as graduate school entrance exam questions, so please feel free to ask us any questions you may have about the lectures.

Takeshi Wakabayashi

A message to current students: The German genius scholar Carl Friedrich Gauss famously said, "Mathematics is the queen of sciences, and number theory is the queen of mathematics." This is said to indicate that mathematics is the foundation of scientific disciplines, a tool of science, and the language of science.
I sincerely hope that you will take the time to study mathematics carefully, as it will be essential for your future studies in your chosen field of specialization.
At the Education Center, faculty and student staff are here to support you, so please don't hesitate to stop by.

A message to high school students
Unlike high school, university is a place where each student creates their own curriculum tailored to their individual needs. It also offers a wide range of experiences. It's your final learning environment before entering the workforce, so I encourage you to challenge yourself in many different ways.
Our university's Education Center provides meticulous support to ensure that you can study at the university with peace of mind. We offer courses to improve your foundational skills in Calculus I & II, as well as pre-enrollment lectures and intensive courses. We also have a system in place where student staff (tutors) and faculty members are available to answer your questions and provide advice. We look forward to your enrollment.
