University Introduction Education Program

Mathematics, Data Science, and AI Education Program

Data science and AI (artificial intelligence) have attracted attention as useful research fields that can contribute to solving various issues facing modern society. They are being utilized not only in science and engineering fields but also in a wide variety of fields, including retail, food and beverage, medicine, transportation, weather forecasting, and finance. For example, a well-known and familiar example is the use of data science and AI technology to analyze and predict the behavioral data of registered members and issue coupons that are expected to increase sales. Recently, data has also been used in the world of sports to analyze tactics and improve training methods. Data science and AI have become essential for the evolution of society as a whole, and society is craving the production of people with this knowledge and skills.
It is said that Japan is facing a shortage of hundreds of thousands of data scientists, who are experts in data analysis. The importance of data science is being emphasized even more, with the Cabinet Office, the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, and the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry working together to establish the "Mathematics, Data Science and AI Education Program Certification System" to encourage mathematics, data science and AI education initiatives at universities and other institutions.
Against this social backdrop, Osaka Institute of Technology has established "OIT MDASH (Literacy)" as part of the regular curriculum for undergraduate education across all faculties since the 2022 academic year. This educational program aims to cultivate students' interest in mathematics, data science, and AI, their ability to understand them appropriately, and their fundamental skills for utilizing them, thereby contributing to the improvement of information literacy among our students.
Furthermore, starting in 2025, we will establish the "OIT MDASH (Applied Fundamentals) Faculty of Information Science and Technology," which aims to cultivate the ability to create new value and implement it in society by making full use of data science and other related fields.

Collaborative courses using educational exceptions

Starting in the 7th year of the Reiwa era (2025), under special academic provisions for multi-university corporations, our students will be able to take and complete some of the courses offered by Hiroshima International University in the same way as courses offered by our university.

Initiatives for the Grand Prix for Developing Basic Skills for Working Adults

The Grand Prix for Developing Fundamental Skills for Working Adults examines and evaluates the extent to which students have developed "fundamental skills for working adults" (basic skills necessary for working with diverse people in the workplace and local community) advocated by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry through university seminars, research, classes, etc. Regional qualifying tournaments are held every year, and teams that pass the qualifying rounds advance to the final tournament.
Students from our university participate every year.
