Message from the President
A new challenge for the next 100 years: Nurturing the talent to build the future
Osaka Institute of Technology was founded in 1922 by its predecessor, Kansai Technical College, based on the founding spirit of "educating professionals with practical skills backed by theory who can be active in the field for the sake of the world, people, and the region." Since then, in response to the demands of society and the times, the college has striven to nurture professionals with a pioneering spirit who strive to create new intellectual and technological ideas.
The school will celebrate its 100th anniversary in 2022, and as the first step towards the next 100 years from 2023, we have formulated a new basic plan, " J-Vision 37 ," which will extend through 2037, with the aim of further enhancing our educational and research activities.
Our university is focusing on "quality assurance at graduation." Since being selected for the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology's Accelerated Program for Rebuilding University Education (AP) and receiving a high evaluation (S rating) as a pioneering model case for meeting societal demands, we have been working to further enhance our unique system of support for independent learning, such as clearly indicating minimum requirements (qualifications, knowledge, and abilities that should be acquired at a minimum) and visualizing learning outcomes ( diploma supplement system ).
In addition, the university was ranked for the first time in the 2021 World University Rankings published by the British journal Times Higher Education (THE), and has been ranked for the fifth consecutive year in the 2025 rankings announced this year. This means that the university has been highly evaluated in five areas: education, research environment, research quality, industry, and internationality.
Digital technology has made remarkable advances in recent years, and is now being applied in a wide range of fields. As society as a whole moves toward the realization of Society 5.0, it is becoming more important than ever to develop human resources who can contribute to society by utilizing cutting-edge technologies and knowledge in areas such as IoT, robotics, AI, and data science.
Our university has the Faculty of Engineering , Faculty of Robotics and Design , Faculty of Information Science and Technology , and Faculty of Intellectual Property . We are also taking advantage of the educational resources of the Faculty of Information Science and Technology of Department of Real World Computing Science, which opened in 2025, to further enhance the " Mathematics, Data Science, and AI education " that is already being offered university-wide.
By further deepening the organic connections between faculties, we are working to cultivate "talented people who can discover and create the breakthrough knowledge that will be the source of technological innovation and value creation, and who can connect the results of this with social issues and create new businesses, including platforms" (excerpt from the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology's Ministerial Conference on Human Resource Development for Society 5.0) that are necessary to realize Society 5.0.
We are also working to expand our educational and research environment. In 2025, the Faculty of Information Science and Technology opened the DX Field , Japan's largest demonstration experiment facility. It will enable social application experiments in the fields of logistics, agriculture, and disaster prevention using drones and robots controlled by AI and software, as well as research and development of large-scale XR systems. The Department of Real World Computing , which also started in 2025, will train talent who aim to solve real-world problems using information technology. The Department of Department of Biomedical Engineering , Faculty of Faculty of Engineering , based at the Omiya Campus, has opened a Clinical Engineering Technician Training Course. It will produce life engineers who combine both medical and engineering skills and medical device specialists. The Faculty of Faculty of Robotics and Design at the Umeda Campus has opened the OIT Esports Digital Area , which realizes extracurricular activities and exchanges with companies through esports. We have signed a collaboration agreement with NVIDIA LLC and have started a new educational program in collaboration with our university.
The environment surrounding us is changing daily, with various natural disasters including abnormal weather. In this situation, students are required to think for themselves, listen to the ideas of others, and collaborate. Our university intends to further improve the system that allows students to improve themselves not only through classes and research, but also through various activities.
We appreciate the understanding and support of all concerned parties.
