Initiative Structure

Expected results and developments

Main achievements

Visualization of individual learning outcomes using the DS system

It is now possible to visualize detailed development data (learning behavior, learning outcomes, learning guidance content, etc.) from the time of enrollment to graduation, and to promote each student's learning outcomes to society.
In addition to the traditional number of credits acquired, we have developed a Diploma Supplement System (DS System) that can clearly visualize the learning outcomes acquired during enrollment, the learning achievement level of specialized subjects, and the degree of development of generic abilities, as well as comparisons with the averages within the university or nationwide. By outputting this information as a Diploma Supplement (DS) and submitting it to companies, etc., it has become possible to greatly promote the learning outcomes acquired during enrollment to society.

<DS output example>

Realize improved learning outcomes by clarifying educational standards (clarifying minimum requirements)

Minimum requirements (grade targets that students must achieve) and methods for evaluating learning outcomes have been set for all courses, creating a system for promoting active learning activities and providing effective learning guidance.
The minimum requirements for each course and the learning outcome evaluation method based on them are clearly stated in the syllabus, and a system is in place to clearly share learning guidelines between students and faculty. In addition, by utilizing the DS system, supervising faculty members can grasp each student's learning situation in a timely manner, promoting active learning activities and providing effective learning guidance.

Promoting the development of abilities required by society (specialized abilities, general abilities, etc.)

In addition to the specialized knowledge and technical skills required of professionals, we have created a system that promotes personal growth in the general abilities (communication skills, initiative, etc.) that have been strongly demanded by society in recent years, and that measures and visualizes the degree of growth.
In addition to conducting assessment tests (specialized knowledge confirmation tests) to measure the degree of acquisition of specialized knowledge, we also conduct PROG tests in the first and third years to measure the degree of growth in general skills, thereby visualizing each student's overall growth and promoting self-awareness. Based on the results of these tests, we also distribute career development support notebooks and hold career development support courses to further develop skills, thereby cultivating and strengthening the skills required to play an active role in society.

Q&A - Frequently Asked Questions -

  • What exactly is the Acceleration Program for University Education Revitalization (AP)?
This is a public program run by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology to support universities that are taking cutting-edge approaches to further promote university education reform as a nation. Osaka Institute of Technology Institute of Technology was the only private university in the Kansai region to be selected for Theme V, "Strengthening efforts to ensure quality at graduation," out of 116 universities that applied nationwide (a competition rate of over six times). Theme V aims to develop a system for objectively evaluating the skills students have acquired at the time of graduation and effective methods for presenting their learning outcomes to society, and to work on quality assurance of education in collaboration with diverse human resources outside the university.
  • Is Osaka Institute of Technology's commitment to AP different from other universities?
Our university was the only private university in the Kansai region to adopt Theme Ⅴ "Strengthening efforts to ensure quality at graduation." By participating in the AP project, we will be able to enhance student support through collaboration with all faculty and staff as well as diverse people outside the university, and achieve "quality assurance at the university (quality assurance at graduation)" that meets the needs of society. This will be a great support for students in realizing their dreams and goals.
  • What results have you seen from your AP efforts?
As a result of our university's AP efforts (interim results), we have been certified by the government as having received the highest rating of S (a five-level rating from S to D). This is because our university has implemented efforts that exceed our plans, and we are expected to fully achieve the purpose of this project by continuing our current efforts. Please refer to the data here for each initiative and its results.
  • How does AP relate to students?
Through the AP program, we are promoting initiatives aimed at achieving rich learning outcomes, such as encouraging students to learn autonomously and receive effective instruction. For example, by establishing and introducing our unique Diploma Supplement System (DS System), students can self-examine their learning outcomes in more detail , in addition to the traditional number of credits acquired. In addition, by conducting assessment tests, we can grasp and visualize the degree of acquisition of specialized knowledge , and by conducting PROG tests, we can grasp and visualize the degree of achievement of general abilities, etc. , thus establishing a system to support independent learning. In addition, we provide detailed career development support and instruction using a career development support notebook, etc., which leads to strengthening and promoting quality assurance at the time of graduation .
  • Will AP help me get a job?
By participating in the AP Project, we will achieve quality assurance at the University of Engineering that meets the needs of society, which will be useful in job hunting and career development. Through the AP Project, we will develop the skills necessary for future career development through self-directed learning and effective learning guidance. In addition, the "Diploma Supplement (DS)" (a document that comprehensively accumulates and visualizes the achievements of specialized subjects and the development of general abilities in a radar chart) is used by various companies for recruitment selection, and we will continue to implement initiatives that will lead to the spread and promotion of the use of DS.
