University Introduction Initiatives in Kawakami Village

  • Initiatives in Kawakami Village

Learning from the rich natural environment of Kawakami Village, aiming to become an engineer who works towards environmental symbiosis

Based on the "Agreement on Cooperation and Partnership" concluded with Kawakami Village, Nara Prefecture on July 26, 2010, our university is carrying out a variety of activities in the naturally rich village.

Partnership agreement with Kawakami Village and major initiatives

We are engaged in various initiatives, such as parent-child science classes and participation in local events.

Partnership agreement with Kawakami Village

The connection between our university and Kawakami Village began when students from the Department of Architecture participated in the Kawakami Village Carpentry Workshop, a workshop that has been held since 1998 to promote the effective use of thinned wood and experience forestry. In addition, since 2006, orientations for new students from each department have been held in Kawakami Village, and practical training in environmental education has been conducted in various parts of the village. As a result of these collaborative efforts, and because our university, which is engaged in environmental studies, and Kawakami Village, which is engaged in "village development in the water source area," share common challenges, we signed an "Agreement on Cooperation and Collaboration" on July 26, 2010, and have been carrying out various activities in the naturally rich village.

Main Initiatives

■Parent-child science class

■ Participation in local events

As part of our activities based on the comprehensive partnership agreement, our university actively participates in local events in Kawakami Village.

Kawakami Village Carpentry School

Since 1999, the Department of Architecture, Faculty of Faculty of Engineering , has been participating in the Kawakami Village Department of Architecture, which aims to provide a place where students can learn practically about architecture while coming into contact with real wood in Kawakami Village, a forestry hub. The main activities include forestry experiences and creating works using thinned wood. Through the experience of designing and constructing wooden buildings with their own hands, students can experience the joys and challenges of manufacturing.
